Taller’s Visual Arts Program is focused on the constant evaluation of art, in particular the artistic/cultural representation of Puerto Rico and Latin America as it supports the work of Puerto Rican and Latin@ artists. We aim to present quality exhibitions that are educational and relevant to the audiences we serve. We believe in looking at history to learn as we contemplate the future of Latino art and artists.
LORENZO HOMAR GALLERY HOURS:
For nearly four decades, Taller’s Visual Arts Program and its primary exhibition hall, the Lorenzo Homar Gallery, has provided the region’s only space/s dedicated to Puerto Rican and Latin American art, highlighting contemporary artists from Philadelphia, the United States and Puerto Rico. We give voice to artists who challenge contemporary stereotypes and/or limitations and who are able to utilize their understanding of the roots of our traditions within a contemporary context.
We select artists in consultation with our Arts Advisory Committee, a choice group of artists, curators, and community members. Yearly exhibition cycles are often planned two years in advance. Although we do not exhibit all the artists who submit work, we do encourage artists to keep us informed of their work, as opportunities do arise.
