Closing party for Michelle Angela Ortiz’s exhibition, Quizás Mañana.
The party is also in honor of Roxana J. Pérez-Méndez show Quien a buen árbol se arrima …. and the Artblog’s Look/Draw/Write workshops. The two shows and the workshops, recipients of the same NEA grant, expanded and underscored Taller’s role in the community to bring people together and bridge our understanding of each other.
Music by DJ Juanderful
Juanderful is co-founder/curator of Tropicalismo events. Growing up to the rhythms of his Colombian background has unquestionably laid down the backbone to sounds he plays. Being in Philly, with its rich DJ legacy and soulful sounds, has added another dimension to that score. Most recently, Juanderful has been pushing humidity soaked funk riddims at TROPICALISMO/Che Che Cole/Odunde (Owambe: street party), which has seen the participation of guest DJs from around the globe. These experiences have helped to extend his sonic range further while encouraging him to dig deeper into the roots. Always pushing forward, not neatly defined, but global in mind.
