Raquel Salas-Rivera is a Puerto Rican poet, writer, and translator based in Philadelphia. Salas-Rivera will read a selection of recent poems from oropel/tinsel (2016) in both English and Spanish, exploring the moments of bilingual friction that express the poet’s dual identity as a Puerto Rican and Philadelphia resident and reaching out to other bilingual readers who share the poet’s dual linguistic identity. Salas Rivera’s poetry aims to merge the voice of the reader and the speaker of her poems, creating a private space of intimate connection through reading.
