“Roppongi Crossings” is a trilogy, which portrays the lives of rootless expatriates in Japan ceaselessly searching for themselves and others. The trilogy addresses the complexities of globalization, historical memory and transnational migrations. Each book stands on its own, and can be read in any order. The presentation will focus on The Ruins, the story of Tomás Rodrigues, a professor in Japan who finds himself haunted by his past when he sees a woman who looks exactly like his first true love. This journey explores the mind of a man who is eager to understand and reconcile with his past making the reader question whether coincidences exist at all, or if the universe has already written the plots to our stories.
