ARTIST RECEPTION
Please join us on April 12 for the reception of the Philadelphia based artist, Rafael Villamil, whose works of art are epic in scale and content. His exhibition at Taller Puertorriqueño, Paradise Has No Memory, centers on his artwork from the 1960s to the 2000s. Villamil is an architect by training and an artist by temperament in the broadest sense of the word. In his paintings, drawings, and assemblies, he ruminates on his experiences, aspirations, lost loves, mortality, and exploration of his humanity. In a time that is riven by political distrust and cynicism, his work stands out as a testament to his honesty and his vision.
This exhibition calls attention to a significant artist who has been living in the shadows of Philadelphia for too long and who has created a body of work that is both impressive and challenging and deserving of our attention.
Paradise Has No Memory will be on view through June 8, 2019.
