Children can also participate in arts and crafts\, all while enjoying light refreshments.  \n\n\n\nAbout the Book:\n\n\n\nIt’s almost Three Kings Day\, and while the grownups prepare a large meal\, the kids prepare their shoe boxes for los Reyes to arrive later that night. Will they stay up late enough to wish the Kings a Feliz Día de los Reyes? Or will the magic pass them by? This talk is being co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Latino Arts and Film Festival (PHLAFF) and will be moderated by Daniel de Jesús. \n\n\n\nPatrick McGrath Muñiz\, an artist based in Texas\, uses his paintings and retablos to depict figures and icons from tarot\, Spanish colonial iconography\, and pop culture. His artwork reflects his experiences living in a world affected by digital communication and information\, climate change\, social inequality\, and the global pandemic. Through his use of allegory\, he encourages viewers to delve into the roots of our colonial past and gain a deeper understanding of how it influences our present and future. DESCRIPTION:Be part of the Opening Reception for Patrick McGrath Muñiz’s latest exhibition\, Arcanas: Neocolonial Retablos Inspired by Tarot on Friday\, September 15\, 2023\, from 6:00pm – 9:00pm and let his artwork inspire your imagination!  Curated by Daniel de Jesús\, this show features 30 new artworks that explore the intersection of tradition and innovation.  \n\n\n\nBy appropriating figures and icons from tarot\, Spanish colonial iconography\, and pop culture\, the artist recreates scenes that mirror his experience living in a world impacted by the onslaught of digital communication and information\, climate change\, social inequality\, and the global pandemic. McGrath Muñiz’s distinctive style seamlessly blends his bicultural upbringing with his signature Baroque-inspired painting technique visualizing our world in the Digital Age. He encourages viewers to explore the roots of our colonial past and gain a deeper understanding of how it shapes our present and future. \n\n\n\nArcanas: Neocolonial Retablos Inspired by Tarot will be on view from August 11\, 2023 to October 21\, 2023.
