Taller Puertorriqueño is celebrating our tenth anniversary at the Corazón Cultural Center with a dinner honoring Antonio Fiol-Silva, our building’s architect, during his exhibition En Su Sitio / In Its Place: Antonio Fiol-Silva: architecture + urbanism, and Carmen Febo San Miguel, Former Executive Director and Board Chair of Taller Puertorriqueño.

For decades, Taller Puertorriqueño has served as a vital cultural anchor for Philadelphia’s Latine community, empowering generations through art, education, and advocacy. The 2016 opening of its permanent home in North Philadelphia realized a long-held vision born of resilience and profound cultural pride. As the organization celebrates the tenth anniversary of the El Corazón Cultural Center, this milestone honors its rich legacy while looking ahead to continued growth. More than just a building, the center remains a vibrant sanctuary for Latine art, culture, and community.

Taller’s building lead architect
On September 11, 2026, Antonio Fiol-Silva (Founding Principal, SITIO architecture + urbanism) opens with his firm En Su Sitio / In Its Place, an exhibition that reflects on the social role of architecture. The exhibit conveys how the built environment influences collective life, identity, and storytelling through models, drawings, and narrative explorations. The show honors the 10th anniversary of Taller’s award-winning building project.
Antonio’s career has encompassed prominent roles in the shaping of cities and buildings through his work in both the public and private sectors – from his service as Director of Urbanism for the City of San Juan, to his current role as Founding Principal of the Philadelphia-based SITIO architecture + urbanism.
A dynamic civically-engaged architect, Antonio has been President of AIA Philadelphia and Chair of ULI Philadelphia; he has served as Commissioner of the Delaware River Port Authority and the Philadelphia Historical Commission. He has been a Board Member of the Association for Public Art and of the Central Philadelphia Development Corporation, served as a Global Governing Trustee of the Urban Land Institute, and currently sits on several design-review boards.
Antonio has a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University, a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University and was a Fulbright Fellow in Barcelona.
Carmen Febo San Miguel
Former Executive Director and
Board Chair of Taller Puertorriqueño
Honoring the legacy of Carmen Febo San Miguel, who dedicated 36 years to leading Taller as Board Chair and then Executive Director. Her unwavering dedication and commitment to Taller’s mission propelled the organization forward.
Born in Ciales, Puerto Rico, Carmen Febo San Miguel graduated as a physician in 1973. She came to Philadelphia to complete her residency, specializing in Family Medicine, which she completed in 1976. For four decades she worked as a Family Medicine Specialist providing comprehensive medical care, and as Medical Director, in settings that included Germantown Family Medicine Associates and the Naranjito Health Center in Puerto Rico, (1980 to 1984), until she retired from medicine in 2014. This town in the central mountains of Puerto Rico declared her “Hija Adoptiva” (Adoptive Daughter).
Carmen is mainly recognized for her work with Taller Puertorriqueño, as its Executive Director since 2001, while still serving part-time as a physician until retiring from medicine in 2014. Under her leadership (2001-2022), Taller continued to grow and, in 2016, the organization completed and moved into the $11.5 million, cultural center in the heart of Philadelphia’s Latino community. In 2019 she was recognized as a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania and in 2023 she received the Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s Heritage Award from for her significant contributions to the heritage future of the Philadelphia region. She currently serves as a member of the Women’s Non-Profit Leadership Initiative, and as a city of Philadelphia Art Commissioner.

Ten years after completing Taller’s permanent home, El Corazón Cultural Center, Taller’s building lead architect, Antonio Fiol-Silva (Founding Principal, SITIO architecture + urbanism) presents an exhibition that reflects on the social role of architecture. En su SITIO conveys how built environments influence collective life, identity, and storytelling through models, drawings, and narrative explorations. The show also honors the 10th anniversary of Taller’s award-winning building project—an enduring gathering place for culture and resilience.
