La Música Continua: Celebrating the Legacy and Cultural Impact of Jesse Malpica-Bermudez

Join us on Friday, May 16 for La Música Continua, the third annual celebration of Jesse Malpica-Bermudez’s life and legacy, presented by the Jesse Malpica-Bermudez Legacy Fund in partnership with Taller Puertorriqueño.

We’re thrilled to be in our second cycle of supporting Philly-based musicians and music students of color in the form scholarships and micro-grants — and we’re doing it in true Jesse fashion: with a vibrant night of culture, rhythm, and community.

Preserving and promoting Puerto Rican arts and culture.

Known as El Corazón Cultural del Barrio, Taller Puertorriqueño is a community-based cultural organization that uses art to promote development within its community and the Latinx Diaspora and build bridges to the Greater Philadelphia region.

Embroidering Legacy: A Community Workshop with Richie Lopez

Thursday, May 22 from 4pm – 6pm

Join artist Richie Wilde Lopez for two free community embroidery workshops at Taller Puertorriqueño. This hands-on session invites participants to contribute directly to a collaborative art installation centered on the theme of legacy—what we carry, what we leave behind, and what we hope to be remembered for.

During the workshop, participants will learn a few basic embroidery stitches and use them to stitch a single word onto cloth—something that represents their personal interpretation of legacy. These embroidered words will be collected at the end of the session and included in a larger textile installation currently in progress.
