Join us for the opening of Los Dueños de Nada (The Owners of Nothing) a solo exhibition of Alexis Duque’s new paintings and works on paper that interweaves personal history with broader socio-political themes. Duque is a Colombian artist based in New York City. In his new work, Duques uses figurative representational techniques to bring into relief the lives of those impacted by migration, class, and ethnic distinctions and who may otherwise be seen as residing on the periphery of society.
The exhibition’s title is a nod to “Los Nadies” (“The Nobodies”), a poem by Uruguayan historian and novelist Eduardo Galeano decrying the invisibility cast upon the millions of dispossessed people around the world.
