Join us for La Guagua 47 Community Concert at Taller Puertorriqueño on Saturday, September 26th at 7:00 PM. An evening of music, storytelling, and celebration featuring selections from La Guagua 47 – a new bilingual musical by Alba Martínez, heading to its world premiere at Philadelphia Theatre Company in the 2027-28 season.
As a featured event for Hispanic Heritage Month. This performance will serve as the special capstone of the Guagua47 artist residency. Taller Puertorriqueño has been proud to host Alba Martínez as an Artist in Residence, leading a multi-year creative and community-engaged residency rooted in the development of La Guagua 47. La Guagua 47 tells the story of Lucía, a 15-year-old artist from Jayuya, Puerto Rico, forced to leave everything she knows and move to Philadelphia after her father loses his job at the town’s pharmaceutical plant. Determined to return home, she sets out to find a ticket back to the island. She finds the 47 bus instead.
This concert brings La Guagua 47 directly into the Latino community that inspired it, with a professional cast, the La Guagua 47 Community Chorus, and a live band.
Everybody gets on. Fulton Bank, FINANTA, and Taller Puertorriqueño make free admission possible. The other three levels aren’t ticket prices – they’re ways to join us and make the next concert possible.
