@5pm Vieques: A Living Archive

In a gripping and unpredictable 20-year quest, Juan Carlos Rodríguez showcases the poignant story of Vieques. Through intimate recollections, community voices, and archival footage, the film exposes the profound hardships endured by Viequenses before and after the US Navy’s departure in 2003. It unveils Vieques’ dire health situation throughout the years.

@7pm En el Umbral del Infinito // On the Threshold of Infinity-Elí Barreto Talavera)

“On the Threshold of Infinity” explores the relationship between the abstract and geometric art of Puerto Rican artist Elí Barreto Talavera and his Afro-Caribbean worldview, centered on the Ifá Oracle. The documentary explores how these dimensions coexist and mutually enrich each other, seeking to restore the human being’s connection with nature and universal harmony.

(Spanish version) “En el umbral de lo infinito” explora la relación entre el arte abstracto geométrico del artista puertorriqueño Elí Barreto Talavera y su cosmovisión afrocaribeña, centrada en el Oráculo de Ifá. El documental muestra cómo su práctica espiritual y su pintura se complementan, buscando restaurar la conexión del ser humano con la naturaleza y la armonía universal.

@7:30pm Retrospective: Aris Mejias 15 Years of Short Films

This retrospective presentation is a thoughtfully curated compilation of short films spanning 15 years of performances by actress Aris Mejías. Presented in 2025 by the esteemed Film Department of the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico (School of Visual Arts), this cinematic journey offers a unique lens into Mejías’s evolution as an actress. Designed as both a visual archive and a catalyst for dialogue, the screening will be followed by an in-depth Q&A session and analysis, exploring the depth, versatility, and emotional resonance of her characters.
