Overview
Los Talleres (Workshops) are classes that provide instruction in sewing and printmaking for people of all backgrounds, skill levels, and ages, to learn and create art. They embrace our roots in printmaking while incorporating our current direction of sewing as ways of expression and self-sufficiency. Taught by experienced Taller staff, participants will take part in 8 class sessions. Classes are bilingual (English & Spanish).
All classes cost $200 for 8 sessions. Most materials are provided to students.
Our Summer Term will run from July 18, 2023 to August 10, 2023 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00PM – 8:00PM and will be held at Taller Puertorriqueño on 2600 N. 5th st.
The classes we currently offer are:
Sewing for Beginners
This course is an exploration meant to introduce people with no experience and who are interested in basic sewing.
- Schedule: July 18, 2023 to August 10, 2023 | 6:00PM – 8:00PM on Tuesdays & Thursdays (July 18th, 20th, 25th, 27th, August 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th)
- Instructor: Ashleen Castillo
- Tuition: $200 for 8 sessions
- Skill Level: Basic (no experience required)
- Age: 14 & up
- Amount of Participants: 6 – 8 participants (if class doesn’t receive a minimum of 6 participants before the first day, the course will unfortunately have to be cancelled and participants will be refunded)
- Materials Provided: Sewing machine, Paper scissors, Paper, Measuring tape, Ruler, Domestic sewing machine needles, & Drawing materials
- Materials to bring: Sketchbook, Fabric scissors, Pins, Seam ripper, Hand sewing needles, Domestic machine plastic bobbins, Cotton fabric, Color thread (same color as your fabric)

About the Instructor
Ashleen Castillo
Ashleen Castillo is a 29-year-old Colombian-Puerto Rican fashion designer that grew up in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Creating has always been her passion, which motivated her to study fashion design in the International School of Design and Architecture at Universidad del Turabo in Gurabo, Puerto Rico and Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. In 2015, she began to develop her brand, Ashleen Castillo, launching her first line of swimwear.
During her studies at Moore College of Art and Design, she had the opportunity to develop and present her work on platforms such as New York Fashion Week and Philly Fashion Week 2019. Moved by her passion for identity through clothing, she had the opportunity to do an internship in Guatemala, working with the weaver’s cooperative Trama Textiles. Thanks to this experience, she discovered her passion and social commitment. Currently she is the Youth Artist Program Coordinator and Instructor at Taller Puertorriqueño. Where she works with the Youth in the development of their identity as individuals and emerging artists through the arts, design and entrepreneurship.
Art to Wear: Intermediate Sewing
The Art to Wear is a class for intermediate sewing to learn about fashion from a sustainable point of view, and creating art pieces with day-to-day clothing. We will be going over sewing techniques, fashion history terms, and there will be one project where we will create art to wear garments.
- Schedule: July 18, 2023 to August 10, 2023 | 6:00PM – 9:00PM on Tuesdays & Thursdays (July 18th, 20th, 25th, 27th, August 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th)
- Instructor: Kamille Payamps
- Tuition: $200 for 8 sessions
- Skill Level: Intermediate (some prior sewing experience)
- Age: 14 & up
- Amount of participants: 6 – 8 participants (if class doesn’t receive a minimum of 6 participants before the first day, the course will unfortunately have to be cancelled and participants will be refunded)
- Materials Provided: sewing machine, ruler, drawing kit (pencil, color pencils, markers), and paper scissors
- Materials to bring: sewing kit (measuring tape, machine needles, hand sewing needles, thread, pins), fabric scissor, and sketchbook.

About the Instructor
Kamille Payamps
Kamille Payamps Feliciano is a 22-year-old Puerto Rican-Dominican fashion designer from Puerto Rico. Fascinated by how clothes were made, at an early age motivated her to study fashion and styling. Starting her studies in Puerto Rico at Lisa Thon and later at Universidad del Turabo, which in her second year of university decided to transfer to Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. Transferring gave her a lot of experiences with industry designers, internships and jobs. Inspired and fascinated by architecture, history, heritage, sustainability and craftsmanship, Payamps designs with the ideals of modernity at the forefront of her mind.
Screenprinting for Beginners
In this introductory course students will learn the basics of screen printing. We will be going over different screen printing techniques, creating your own designs, preparing a stencil using various methods, and prepping a screen to print.

- Skill Level: Level: Basic (No prior experience required)
- Age: 14 & up
- Max of Participants: 6 – 8 participants (if class doesn’t receive a minimum of 6 participants before the first day, the course will unfortunately have to be cancelled and participants will be refunded)
- Materials Provided: screens, squeegees, emulsion, paper, ink, aprons, gloves, scissors, drawing materials.
- Materials to bring: Sketchbook & laptop (if accessible)

About the Instructor
Annais Delgado Sánchez
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Annais Delgado Sánchez is a graphic designer, animator, illustrator, printmaker, creative, and the content developer here at Taller Puertorriqueño. They have always had a passion for creating and art, which led them to pursue art as a career. After moving to Philly they studied Graphic Design and Animation at Moore College of Art and Design. Where they obtained their BFA and discovered their love for design, printmaking, social justice and bringing these worlds together.
Through art and design they strive to create work that advocates for their communities, inspires change, and has a positive impact. They love all things art & design especially if they involve illustration, typography, motion design, getting messy with printmaking, putting a book together and collaborating with other artists.
Accessibility
The building is wheelchair accessible with 48″ wide ramps and 40″ doorways. Bathrooms stalls are wheelchair accessible. We also have a bathroom with a changing table for parents with infants.
