The 20th Annual Arturo A. Schomburg Symposium, SHIFTING IDENTITIES: Expressing Afrolatinidad, considers the ideological shifts Afro-Latino migrants and immigrants have undergone through their experiences in Latin America and the United States.
The symposium is organized in conjunction with Taller Puertorriqueñoâs concurrent exhibition Unpacking Hispañola: Scherezade Garcia and Firelei Báez, that opens on February 12. Curated by Abigail Lapin Dardashti, this exhibition re-envisions the processes that construct historical narratives, racial subjectivity, and gender.
